Angela Rayner emphasised the central and pivotal role of Mayors in the devolution process to Combined Authorities and Local Authorities in an Interview with BBC TV NW News at the Convention of the North, which was also shown on Politics NW on Sunday 2nd March. Here are the salient quotes:
"We are already seeing what Mayors can do in Greater M/C. Productivity is adobe the national average. So, with Mayors working with Local Authorities, which have been given in real cash terms injection to try and really rejuvenate our area".
In answer to a question about the South getting more money than the North and the Convention of the North emphasizing the importance of Transport connectivity to boost the economy, Rayner said:
" We've got to get Transport systems right. Transport Connectivity is really important to boost the economic growth we want to see across the whole of the North".
